Tuan bom, Tuan tattoo, Tuan vampire... are the names of me those be known to people.
I am a original son of Hanoi. After years studying at university of art, I had a few failures in the works that I feel my creativity is slowly drains out.
Until the mid of 2006, when I was still stuck in finding a satisfying job, It was about chance or a strange arrangement of god, I met a brother and the stories revolve around tattoo. Then came the thought of becoming a tattoo artist not just cross my mind, it stayed!
This idea would be normal if you are in the US, Uk or and other developed country, but in VietNam even until now, tattoos are still seen as something not good. So for almost every people, even my family believed that this was a bad idea.
And of course it does not concern me that much. For me, tattooing is a real art, It just not be seen by a proper way.
Art is not simple, not easy and effortless; I had a 3 weeks trip to Saigon and Pattaya-Thailand and observed directly how professional artists make tattoos. And after the trip, compared with average ground for development of tattoo art in Vietnam at that time, I can see myself as a first professional tattoo artist. Together with my brother, we had founded a developed the first place for professional tattoo in Vietnam called Hanoi Tattoo Club, and got a good reputation among those who loves tattoo.
Then I spend all of my passion and time for this kind of art. When I have a relatively fine background of art, I always challenged myself with all other arrays and felt my skill improved quickly. Life is always fluctuating, when the ambition of people could not math in a same way, after 2 years of developing Hanoi Tattoo Club, at the end of 2008, along with some other members, we split from Hanoi Tattoo club to set up our own base, which is Tats Studio as you know today.
I feel this is a milestone on the path to improving my skill; I am always looking for new flavours with my new crew.
Q: “What are your styles, hobbies when you think of tattoo?”
A: I like the real description style, nature, black and grey, portraits, horror, animal...and especially when I am encouraged by customers to bring Vietnam culture into my work.
Q:”Who inspires you as an artist”
A: Oh...! One of the problems there! Vietnam did not have many prominent names as you know and for some, I consider them to be the most impressive, are quite a long distance from here, like: Nikko Hurtado, Bob Tyrell and Nick Baxter, Kat Von D... there are many other that I really idol them.
Q: “what existing in the world outside Tats?”
A: When not working, I spend most of my time for my wife, for my forthcoming child, for Bun(my puppy), watching horror movie, panting, writing and travel...
Q: “Have you ever feel satisfied with your arts?”
A: Not ever, in my opinion, “if you can make the sequel better than the last part of yours, always continue to challenge yourself, you will never stop growing(literally), and that is a true artist.
